Abstract
Taking the semi-cylindrical ductile iron bearing seat as the object, the feasibility of the foam mold resin sand casting process, which is wood mold in the past, is studied and discussed by comparatively investigating the features in each trial process. The results show that the foam mold resin sand casting process is feasible, with advantages such as shorter preparing time, lower price and simple process, and suitable for the production of single or several casting. However, due to lower strength of the foam plastic, the foam mold is easily deformed or destroyed in the process of making the mold cavity and the core, so it is necessary to prevent by adding the reinforcement means in advance. In addition, when removing the foam mold with the high temperature flame, it is easy to cause the collapse of the surrounding resin sand, therefore, it is suggested that in order to shorten the firing time as far as possible, the portable tools like knife or heat line saw should be used to remove most of the foam mold before burning.
