The Design and Application of Automated Offshore Workover Rig

  • An analysis of the overall configuration and current usage of domestic offshore workover rigs reveals that most of the rigs currently in operation suffer from high labor intensity, significant operational risks, and a low level of automation and intelligence. Traditional workover operation modes can no longer meet the demands of modern offshore operations. To address these issues, this study developed a highly automated and intelligent offshore workover rig system. The research focused on the systematic design and optimization of key components, including tubular handling equipment, driller control systems, maintenance and diagnostic systems, and fire and gas systems. Multiple commissioning and validation tests were carried out at the final assembly test site. The system was ultimately verified through real-world offshore application. Field results demonstrated that the workover rig system effectively transformed traditional operation methods, significantly improved the overall technical level of China's offshore workover equipment, and provided valuable reference and practical experience for the development and promotion of similar future equipment.
