Design and Experiment of Cutting Device for Whole-plant Silage Corn

  • To improve the service life and chopping effect of the cutter during whole-plant corn silage harvesting, the physical and mechanical properties of silage corn were studied. Through researching the cutting mechanical model and cutting principle of corn stalks, the influence of parameters such as blade thickness, blade length, and blade angle on the cutting ability was analyzed, and a disc-type serrated cutter was designed. The orthogonal test method with three factors (moisture content, harvesting drum speed, and feeding amount) was used to verify the cutting rate of the cutter, and multiple tests were conducted on key parameters such as the stubble height of the harvester and the blade wear amount. The results show that the sliding cutting method reduces the cutting force by more than 30% compared with the normal cutting. The serrated blade with a thickness of 3 mm and a wedge angle of 75° made of 65 Mn spring steel achieves a cutting rate of 98% under the working condition of moisture content of 66%~73%, which provides a reference for the design of the cutting table of silage harvesters in hilly and mountainous areas.
