Design of an Intelligent Flexible Production Line Based on Large-Scale Five-Axis Machine Tools

  • For the machining requirements of aerospace components characterized by multiple varieties, small batches, and large dimensions, a flexible automated production line design solution based on large-scale five-axis machine tools is proposed. Using pallets as carriers, the solution integrates modules such as heavy-duty RGV transport mechanisms, ground rails, loading/unloading stations, buffer stations, and intelligent flexible manufacturing systems to construct a flexible automated production line. A double-layer bidirectional telescopic RGV structure is adopted to enable layout on both sides of large-scale machine tools without the need for docking exchange stations, thereby saving space. The paper elaborates on the modular design approach to achieve independent development and system integration of functional units, as well as precise mechanical calculations and selection verification for key motion components of the RGV. Through the overall design of the flexible line and practical application validation, the solution meets the machining demands of aerospace components.
