Design and strength analysis of windshield wall of large container ship

  • The green transformation of the shipping industry has posed new challenges to the resistance reduction design of ship hull structures. This paper takes the wind shield installed on a 13,000 TEU container ship as the research object. The distribution of wind loads is determined through investigation and analysis. The preliminary structural strength calculations are completed first. Subsequently, an optimization scheme for the wind shield is proposed based on the stress responses. Thereby achieving lightweight design, meeting carbon emission requirements, and providing technical references for the structural modification of this vessel type. The results indicate that the structural verification of the wind shield should focus on the junction between the bulwark and the bow. In such optimization, priority can be given to reducing the number of columns, utilizing high-strength steel and minimizing plate thickness.
