Simulation Analysis of Vertical Tail Lug Structure based on ABAQUS

Abstract
For aircraft without pre-designed vertical tail hoisting interface, there are the complexity of operation and potential safety hazards in the process of decomposition, transportation and hoisting. Therefore, an innovative padeye assembly is designed in this study. The structure repurposes existing the through-holes of the vertical tail attachment joint lugs, the fuselage frame edge joint lugs through-hole and the original matching nut, which can not only temporarily replace the bolt connection, but also realize the safe lifting of the vertical tail. The simulation analysis of the vertical tail lifting lug system was conducted based on ABAQUS. The results show that under static load conditions, the peak stress of the padeye structure is 179.7 MPa, which is lower than the allowable stress of the material 417.5 MPa (only 43.1% of the allowable value). The maximum displacement is 0.2514 mm, both meeting the safety margin requirements. The analysis confirms that the designed lifting lug structure has sufficient strength reserve to ensure the safety of vertical tail lifting operation.
